How are you different from other nutritionists?

We don’t do diets! Most nutritionists will put you on a one-size-fits-all diet that is not only restrictive but also harmful to your body and its metabolism. We want to tap into the wisdom innate in your body and regain trust in the body to tell us what it needs and how much. We certainly have guidelines that will be customized to fit you and your needs. With the coaching and tools we provide, you can be diet-free!

We also take a whole person approach to providing nutrition therapy. We understand that how, what, and why we eat is complicated, so we take into consideration the diverse aspects of life that may be affecting your health.

With training in Integrative and Functional Nutrition, we take into account the mind-body connection, look for optimal lab ranges (not just “normal” ones), link all the body systems instead of assessing them separately, offer professional supplementation, and search for the why behind your symptoms and diagnoses.

What is Integrative and Functional Nutrition?

Integrative and Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy (IFMNT) takes a client-centered, holistic approach to wellness and healing. This method is unique in that it addresses the causes, treatment, and prevention of disease. Utilizing specialty laboratory testing, botanicals, supplements, nutrition interventions, and detox programs, a personalized therapeutic plan is created alongside the client to restore health and vitality.

What supplements do you recommend?

We prescribe supplements after a thorough nutrition assessment. Some clients will not need any. Others will benefit from additional laboratory or diagnostic testing to determine if there are any suboptimal levels, deficiencies, or benefit of specific nutrient supplementation. We use professional lines that are committed to producing effective, pure, and research-supported products. They are guided by a Medical Advisory Board that guides the development of safe and therapeutic formulations and holds the company to meticulous standards and inspections. This means that these products are safe, and their labels are accurate and consistent. That can’t be said about most over-the-counter supplements.

Can you help me lose weight?

Good question! Excess weight can be the result of inflammation, dietary patterns, disordered eating, a history of yo-yo dieting and a suboptimal food supply. This is further complicated by genetics, medications, and our psyche. By addressing the whole person, we will look at all the factors that may be contributing to undesired weight and create a plan for targeting each of these areas to promote weight loss. Since weight is a compilation of our mind, body, and spirit, the condition of each of these will affect the number on the scale. If you’re willing to consider small, reasonable, and steady changes in these areas, then we can help!

Can I reverse my diabetes?

Lifestyle is powerful. By making changes to the way you eat and move, you will be able to see tangible improvements in energy, weight, blood sugar, A1C, and other labs. Some clients are able to reduce their need for medication or get off diabetes medications completely, control their blood sugar with greater ease, or reverse their diabetes. Let’s discover together what we can do for you!

Do I have Food Sensitivities?

Food may be making you sick! If you have one or more of the following conditions or symptoms, you should be assessed for food sensitivities:

  • Migraine
  • Depression
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis (Inflammatory)
  • Atopic Dermatitis
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD)
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Skin Conditions: Eczema, Psoriasis

Food Sensitivities, unlike allergies and intolerances, are an inflammatory reaction of the body to foods and chemicals that may be considered “healthy” for most people but that causes a release of mediators in a specific person. These mediators can cause a delayed inflammatory reaction up to 72 hours or even longer after ingestion. This reaction can display itself in so many different ways: diarrhea, bloating, headaches, pain, and all the conditions mentioned above.

What is your approach to gastrointestinal disorders?

GI disorders cover a whole spectrum of diagnoses and symptoms and the management and healing of them is equally varied. Food can be a trigger of flare-ups and can also be a source of repair and remedy. We consider potential origins of the particular GI disorder, current complaints and their triggers, and the nutritional therapy that will target and bring recovery to the GI tract. This may include limiting or excluding certain foods, adding other foods and supplements, addressing lifestyle factors, and working alongside your doctor and medical team to discuss other medications and interventions.
